The High Guys Gotta Catch ‘Em All (While They’re High, Obvs)

Over the last two weeks, the Pokémon Go craze has taken over our newsfeeds, timelines, televisions, and lives. From elderly to infants, it seems like no one is immune to this unbelievably trendy game’s allure. Even Buzzfeed’s High Guys got in on the action, battling to see who can become the highest trainer and catch ‘em all.

 

The basics

Before getting started, High Guys Brandon, Emma, and Mike review some basics of Pokémon Go that every good trainer should know. Most of us have already heard the augmented reality game is played on users’ phones, as they wander the real world searching high and sober for the pocket monster creatures.

The adventures lead gamers to some pretty unusual places, but players should follow Brandon’s lead when it comes to risking too much in pursuit of a Pokémon.

I think it was, yeah, yeah, a Pikachu, but it was right by a police car. So, I said ‘fu** that shit’ and I ran away.

The battle begins

While the boys are pumped to start their elevated quest, Emma has some reservations.

I could never be a stoned Pokémon master. I would never get anywhere.

Mike is first up to spot a creature, Meowth, which happened to be waiting right near the camera man. He and Brandon begin tossing Poke Balls, and in the end, Mike prevails, despite Brandon’s offer of lowering the Pokémon’s rent.

Not all who wander are lost

As the group heads outside to play, Emma seems to perk up when she catches a Doduo and delights us with a lovely victory tune. The High Guys, much like the rest of the world, seems to be caught in the Pokémon Go trap, with no sign of exiting the battle arena anytime soon.

The High Guys approach a gym and quickly learn they’re not the masters they thought they were, as Brandon is killed almost instantly by a stronger opponent. Instead of partaking in a battle, Mike uses the time to reflect on his experience playing Pokémon Go while high.

Walking around on a beautiful day, stoned out of my mind, catching Pokémon . I’m glad they invented this…It’s spectacular. What an exciting time to be alive.
