Cannabis Tax Money To Be Used For Bully Prevention

The booming Colorado cannabis business could soon help schools prevent bullying and harassment. The state is set to distribute $66 million of tax revenue to different social programs, which was gained from Proposition BB, a program that allows the state to use surplus money as they see fit. The Colorado Department of Education has received a bully prevention grant that could improve the lives of millions of parents and students. 

 

Surplus being put to good use

Students around the state believe this program could change lives. Bullying can stick with someone for the rest of their life, and early preventative measures can attempt to stop it right at the source.

The Colorado Department of Education has high hopes for this program because of the sheer amount of money that could go to each school. The highest amount a school can receive is a whopping $40,000.

Dr. Adam Collins, bullying prevention, and education grant coordinator for the CDE, explains,

It’s a lot of money. It’s a great opportunity for schools to apply and make sure the social and emotional wellness of their students is taken care of.

As far as we know, we’re the only state that is providing such significant funds to prevent bullying in schools. We are excited to have these funds.
