Due to their nine-year-old son’s rare disease, a family in Cape Coral wants everyone to vote “yes” on Amendment 2. Currently, young Gavin Lawery suffers from Mitochondrial Disease, which has completely changed who he is as a child. As a result of a rare cell-illness, a Cape Coral, Florida family is ready to dump the laundry list of prescription drugs their nine-year-old son Gavin Lawery, who is battling day to day with Mitochondrial disease, has to take every day, and replace them with cannabis.
Mitochondrial disease attacks the “powerhouse” of the cell, also known as the mitochondria. The mitochondria generates the energy necessary to keep our bodies functioning. Without it, however, the body will deteriorate.
Gavin has a constant need for oxygen support, experiences seizures, and has a lengthy list of prescription drugs that he must take daily just to get through the day. With medical cannabis, however, that list will become much shorter.
If we can get him on a plant-based medicine and off of some of these things that have really terrible side effects, I feel like it’s a win-win.
This family needs everyone to vote “yes” on Amendment 2. Not only for their son, but also for other children that are forced to use handfuls of drugs daily to make it to the next day.
