With NBA 2K17’s release date just around the corner, the folks at 2K sports are hyping up the shoe customization with a new promo vid. Titled “Kicks Matter”, the video showcases a new 3D scanning technique used to capture more details in the shoes. It also highlights the huge collection of brand names that come with the game, including the famous Air Jordan and Kobe styles.
2K17: The quest for authenticity
2K Sports Brand manager Andrew Blumberg has year after year, attempted to bring the NBA into the living rooms of fans across the world with NBA 2K.
Every year our goal is to be the most realistic sports game on the market – Andrew Blumberg
And whether he accomplishes it every year is still up for debate and is definitely subjective, this year’s detail is in a whole other league. Blumberg and his team not only added better shoe customization, but also a variance in rebounds that’s more unpredictable, just like the real thing.
Last year, pretty much every rebound was caught cleanly by a defender. That doesn’t happen in basketball all the time. There’s a lot of fighting for the ball, it gets tipped around, and it’s a physical part of the game.
Over time, the small aesthetic details that get added every year will lead to a game that completely immerses you into the world of the NBA. And with VR coming soon, the game should reach a level of realism that is incomprehensible at this stage in time.
