Judge Admits Jailing People For Weed Was Wrong, Still “Haunts” Him

I Was Wrong hero Judge Admits Jailing People For Weed Was Wrong, Still Haunts Him

It’s not just lawmakers that are finally starting to see the light, as people learn that cannabis does save lives, which one retired Florida judge has learned first-hand.

Judge admits: “I was wrong”

Until just recently, if you were caught possessing cannabis (in any form), the state of Florida would have been the last place you’d want to be. That’s because no state in this country punished people more severely for minor marijuana offenses than Florida (according to a 2009 analysis by former NORML Director Jon Gettman), but that is changing – albeit, slowly.

The first big change will happen on October 3, when the state will issue IDs to medical marijuana patients. But one retired judge thinks that the new law isn’t enough.

During his career as a judge in Florida, Doug Bench sent hundreds of people to prison for possessing weed, as he thought it was the right thing to do. Even though he can’t reverse those sentences, the former judge is taking actions to help others who are persecuted for using cannabis, making it his life’s work to wake citizens up to the “70 years of lies” the US government has told about cannabis.

I’ve been haunted for 30 years, wondering how many of those people I put in jail were using cannabis for medical reasons because our government suppressed that information for 70 years.

That’s all due to Bench having been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which can result in an agonizing death, but his life was saved thanks to the medical benefits of cannabis.

Thanks to cannabis, Bench is still alive, which is why he spoke at a public forum on Florida’s Medical Marijuana Implementation, delivering a speech to note how the law simply does not go far enough to help those who need access to cannabis.

5 Amazing Documentaries That Will Educate And Elevate

10 Amazing Documentaries 1 5 Amazing Documentaries That Will Educate And Elevate

From rewatching Rick and Morty to learning how you can use a bell pepper as a bong to smoke some of your stash, there are many entertaining ways to spend your time while high, especially in this age of on-demand entertainment. But one of the best ways is watching documentaries that not only entertain but also teach you more about the world around you.

1. Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010)

If there was one thing that director Werner Herzog was born to do, it was to make films, which is proven – once again – by this documentary about his exploration of the Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave.

The cave, which was discovered in Southern France, is filled with paintings that date back to between 28,000 and 35,000 years. But it wasn’t just the paintings that were preserved, as the bones of extinct animals also survived, all due to having had no exposure to the elements or light.

Given the delicate nature of the cave, the production could only use a crew of three, as well as battery-powered lights that would not damage the paintings, which only adds to the majesty of the documentary that was written, directed and narrated by the German auteur.

2. Bettie Page Reveals All (2012)

Who was Bettie Page? That is revealed by Bettie herself in this documentary that introduces her to a new audience, and also those who thought they knew everything about her, all told in her own words.

From humble beginnings in the South to becoming high school salutatorian and going on to be the most influential pin-up models in the Fifties, Bettie Page lived a life that made her one of the world’s most recognized sex symbols, which is why her story is so fascinating.

3. Five Came Back (2017)

Drawing on hundreds of hours or archival footage, Five Came Back explores the experiences of five iconic film directors – Frank Capra, John Ford, John Huston, George Stevens and William Wyer – and their work “in the trenches” during World War II.

The documentary is not only narrated by Meryl Streep, but it also has the input of five modern day directors that were inspired by the wartime directors, the former being Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro and Lawrence Kasdan.

4. Man on Wire (2008)

While there is a feature film that is based on the exploits of Philippe Petit’s high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center,  (directed by Back to the Future alumnus Robert Zemeckis and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the real story is expertly told in James Marsh’s 2008 documentary.

It takes its name from the police report, which ultimately led to the arrest of Petit, and takes viewers on a 94-minute ride that plays like a heist film. Even if you’re not scared of heights, Man on Wire will have you gasping.

5. Blackfish (2013)

When it comes to modern documentaries, you can’t look past Blackfish, which has been called an “aggressive, impassioned documentary that will change the way you look at performance killer whales.” And you can be sure it will tug at the heartstrings, too, given its subject matter.

The documentary concerns the captivity of an orca, Tilikum, which was involved in the deaths of three individuals at SeaWorld, as well as the controversy and consequences of keeping orcas in captivity. Make sure you have some extra weed on hand, as you might need to unwind when the credits roll, too.

You Have To hero 1 You Have To See What Happened When Gordon Ramsay Meet A Stoner

In an episode of his new show, “Hotel Hell,” celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay visited a medical cannabis establishment and fell back on the stereotypical stoner for laughs.

Gordon Ramsay’s Hotel hell

There’s no doubt that you’ll be familiar with the celebrity chef that is Gordon Ramsay, the star of many reality shows, which has him loosing his cool and swearing his way around the kitchens of the world.

His current show is Hotel Hell, where Ramsay visits struggling mom and pop businesses to help turn their prospects around and making the said businesses a success.

In one particular episode, Ramsay visits a hotel in Oregon, which is run by a cannabis-loving man by the name of Richard but prefers to be called “Pa Butt.” As he says in the clip, “We’re just ‘butt-lings’ all of us running around here.”

Of course, when it comes to mainstream media, such a character is made out to be the stereotypical stoner – and this time is no different. From the moment Ramsay enters the place, the production makes light on that stereotype, starting with nobody there to meet “Sweary Poppins.” That continues when the celebrity chef presses a button for “the buzz to summon a human with answers,” which cuts to Pa Butt sitting back, smoking a joint with a dog at his side and not coming to investigate.

It’s safe to say that the whole piece is played for cheap laughs, with Ramsay playing it up and saying that he loves fresh herbs (and acting like he doesn’t know what weed smells like). Just to put a negative spin on it all, Ramsey also says that the owner is, obviously, “high as a kite.”

Have you ever smoked so much pot that you swore you came close to overdosing? If not, then you must not know about the 100 hits of weed challenge. Sure, 100 hits sounds like a piece of cake at first. But imagine doing 25 dabs, 25 vape hits, 25 pipe hits, and 25 joint hits. Doesn’t seem so easy anymore, now does it? During the video, you’ll get to witness the lovely Haley420 take on this same challenge. Be sure to check it out below and see if you have what it takes to keep up.

Haley420 takes on the 100 hits of weed challenge

If you want to put your love for ganja to the ultimate test, then it’s time to join Haley420 to take on 100 hits of weed. Just be warned, you’re about to get super stoned.

You may be saying to yourself “I already smoke that much in a day and more, so how hard can this be?” But trust and believe you’re in for it.

During the video, Haley first starts off with 25 vape hits using the Volcano. Most people would be dunzo off 25 hits alone, but not this champ.

After the vaporizer, Haley moves on to dabs. A whopping twenty-five dabs, to be exact. Yikes! Anyone who can make it through that many dabs deserves a medal.

Next, the 25 pipe hits. At this point, Haley is halfway done and is high as a kite. She’s still hanging in there, though. Somehow, someway.

Finally, the last part of the challenge, which is 25 joint hits. Will Haley make it out alive? Of course, she will, but what about you? Make sure you watch the video all the way through for a sneak peek of just how high you’re going to be.

Tons Of Classic 2 You Can Now Play Classic Sega Games On Your Phone For Free!

The gaming giant has re-released the classic games before with the plug-and-play Sega Mega Drive Classic Game Console, however, this is the first time they will offer such a selection of games for smartphones. Given time, the collection will grow to include nearly every game ever released, from the Master System to the Mega Drive and more.

Sounds Like Miley Cyrus Is Now Hating On Weed

Is Miley Cyrus hero2 Sounds Like Miley Cyrus Is Now Hating On Weed

By now, practically the whole world knows that Miley Cyrus has put down the pipe. But after years of smoking, why the sudden change of heart? While appearing on The Tonight Show, Miley spoke with Jimmy Fallon about her reasons for giving up the herb. Not only did she blame her love for nipple pasties on pot, but also her lack of passion towards her music in the past. So is she against it or what? Check out the video below, and you be the judge.

Miley’s had a change of tune

When Miley first announced that she was giving up weed, the world lost its mind. According to the star, her decision for putting down the pipe was so that she could clean up her image.

Instead of leaving it at that, she is continuing to come up with more and more reasons as to why she is now sober. And the cannabis community can’t help but be offended.

During the video, Miley dishes them out to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. First, she starts off by saying the reason she wore all those weird animal suits was because she was high. Then, she made a comment about how she wanted to be “more clear” when it came to her upcoming album.

Oh, but that’s not all. Miley also says she had a dream involving death and weed, which as many of you know do not mix. While she did admit that no one has ever died from smoking pot, she also said that’s because no one has ever smoked more than her.

Miley may not be intentionally trying to spread hate towards weed. But at this point, it sure seems like she’s blaming it for just about everything.

Aubrey Plaza Smokes hero Check Out Aubrey Plaza Getting High With The Weed Nuns

Aubrey Plaza blazed up with Sisters of the Valley – AKA “the Weed Nuns” – in a fresh edit of Cut’s “Strange Buds” series, where both weed and religion are the big topics.

Aubrey Plaza and the Weed Nuns

In the latest edit of Cut’s Strange Buds series, Aubrey Plaza gets high with the Sisters of the Valley AKA the “Weed Nuns,” which leads to some spiritual talk by way of the stoner.

For those who aren’t familiar with the Sisters of the Valley, it’s a collective of women who support themselves by growing weed and producing cannabis products, all in a spiritual environment.

And who is this Aubrey Plaza from Wilmington, Delaware? She’s a comedic actress that’s most known for her role as “April” on Parks and Recreation, but you probably knew her, too.

So, why is Miss Plaza blazing up with the Sisters of the Valley? It’s park of the promotion for Plaza’s next movie, The Little Hours, which debuted at Sundance and is being released at the end of the month.

The movie is about three medieval nuns – played by Alison Brie, Kate Micucci and Plaza – who lead a simple life within their convent but soon find temptation in the form of Dave Franco. While it’s still yet to be released, the Catholic League has already called it “trash, pure trash,” which could be used on the poster.

Even before the first joint it lit in the video, Aubrey is asking Sister Kate ‘why she and her fellow weed nuns started wearing the habits?’ That’s because Congress was said to have declared that pizza is a vegetable.

For the rest of the edit, the threesome discusses everything from Catholic guilt to holistic medicine and whether or not Jesus H. Christ smoked, too.

5 Easy Ways To Turn Your Room Into The Ultimate Weed Haven

Why Do Some People Get Nauseous When They Smoke Weed?

5 Weed Related Things On Netflix You Can Watch Right Now

Weed Related Things hero 5 Weed Related Things On Netflix You Can Watch Right Now

With something for almost everyone, it’s almost a given that Netflix would have a bunch of weed-related movies, documentaries and shows. But due to the amount of content that can be streamed, it’s not always easy to find the said titles, which is why you should use this handy list for the next time you’re on the couch (and, hopefully, elevated).

1. Super High Me (2008)

As a green version of Super Size Me, this documentary by Doug Benson shows what happens to him after he consumes cannabis for 30 days, with results that might actually surprise you. Sure, the world has changed a lot in the decade since it was released, but Super High Me is a classic that will hold your attention (and, of course, have you laughing).

2. Dough (2016)

Sure, the synopsis sounds quite predictable but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work, as Dough is a funny and heartwarming comedy. Taking cues from Saving Grace, this British comedy tells the story of an old Jewish baker that is struggling to keep his business afloat, until he employs a young Muslim apprentice that drops cannabis in the dough, sending sales sky high.

3. Rolling Papers (2015)

With the legalization of weed in Colorado, the “green rush” began and The Denver Post was the major media outlet at the center of it all. The documentary chronicles how The Denver Post became the first newspaper to have first cannabis-centric section, with a dedicated editor and team of staff and freelance writers.

4. Half Baked (1998)

While it’s not universally loved, there is something about Half Baked, which continues to entertain – mostly to people who smoke, mind you. Written by Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan, the co-creators of Chappelle’s Show, it’s safe to say that Half Baked is definitely your above-average stoner comedy.

5. Joe Rogan “Triggered” (2016)

Live from San Francisco, veteran comedian Joe Rogan comes right out and lets the audience know he’s “high as fuck” and that’s a good thing for them. The first five minutes of Rogan’s special are a must-see for anyone who has ingested an edible before and from there you’ll be hooked – guaranteed.

Coming soon: Disjointed (2017)

Disjointed is a soon-to-be-released Netflix sitcom, created by the sultan of sitcoms that is Chuck Lorre, which stars Kathy Bates (Misery) as the owner of a dispensary that is the center of the show. While the teaser for Disjointed dropped on 4/20, you’ll have to wait until August for the new series. This show looks set to be a huge smash, with a smart script that seamlessly blends cannabis facts and culture with the mainstream.

Kelsey Darragh had tried almost everything to stop the chronic pain caused by a neurological condition, but she had not tried medical cannabis, which begs the question: Did it work?

Using the chronic to stop chronic pain

If you’re at all familiar with BuzzFeed, you’ll probably know Kelsey Darragh, the “loud-mouthed, no-filtered, boss ass, bitch producer” of some of your favorite videos.

But what you won’t know is that Kelsey also suffers from Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN), which is a neuropathic pain disorder – a pretty serious one at that. The disorder begins at the Trigeminal Nerve, located deep in the center of your brain, which transmits sensations from the brain to the face.

But, sometimes, those sensations can go awry, which causes one of the worst pains known to mankind. That is excruciating pain in the head, neck, and jaw is comparable to severe burns, childbirth and a bite of a bullet ant. It gets so bad that some sufferers have taken their own lives.

I’m at a point in my life and in my pain where I’m willing to try anything.

Over time, Kelsey has had had multiple surgeries to try and fix it, but the pain still continues. No matter if she uses – from expensive medications to acupuncture and even Botox injections  – the pain just doesn’t stop.

There was one thing she had yet to try, though, which is the topic of this video: Medical Marijuana – Can It Cure The “Worst Pain In The World”? Since Kelsey was at a point in her life that the pain was too much, she decided to try that other medicine, which happens to be your favorite herb.

NuggMD Now Lets New Yorkers Get A Medical Card Online

nyc NuggMD Now Lets New Yorkers Get A Medical Card Online

Although New York’s medical marijuana laws are notoriously stricter than other states, serious progress has recently been made to change this. Getting a MMJ card in NY used to require a significant amount of time and effort, but those days are over. Successful California-based startup NuggMD (we’ve mentioned this badass company countless times on HERB) has opened their services in NY state, allowing patients to connect with a licensed New York medical marijuana doctor online to get a certification in just minutes!

General info about New York’s medical marijuana program

NuggMD Now Lets hero NuggMD Now Lets New Yorkers Get A Medical Card Online

Remember: if you want to legally purchase medical marijuana from state-approved dispensaries in New York, you’ll first need a doctor-approved certification.

Currently, only about 800 doctors are verified by the state to recommend medical marijuana. You have the option of visiting one of these licensed docs in-person (if you can find one) for a consultation, which might make sense for some, but be aware that you could be subject to application fees, visitation fees, and even hidden fees.

Why go through all the hassle?

In March of 2015, the State of New York passed Senate Bill 2405, allowing “the use of electronic information and communication technologies by telehealth providers, to deliver health care services, which shall include the assessment, diagnosis, consultation, treatment, education, care management and/or self-management, of a patient.”

With a telemedicine evaluation, you can now get your New York medical marijuana card online from a legally licensed medical professional without leaving home!

NuggMD lets you see a New York doctor online

NuggMD Now Lets 2 NuggMD Now Lets New Yorkers Get A Medical Card Online

NuggMD was started with the simple idea that accessing a medical marijuana certification online could be fast, easy, and affordable via telemedicine.

Since its conception, over 50,000 Californians have used their 420 evaluation services, and now so can New Yorkers. If you or someone you know has ever tried getting medical marijuana, you know the process can be confusing and sometimes even shady—but not anymore. No longer do you have to search online for “weed evaluations near me.”

NuggMD allows you to connect with a knowledgeable, licensed physician online and obtain your MMJ card in just moments using your smartphone, computer or tablet.

Whether you’re a first-time patient or a veteran just looking for an easier way to get a certification, accessing a trusted doctor is just a click away.

To start, you’ll fill out a standard medical form similar to what you’d find in an ordinary doctor’s office. You can also upload any relevant medical documents you have to help the MMJ doc better understand your condition. Remember, all your medical info remains completely confidential through HIPAA law.

Next, enter your payment information. You won’t be charged anything for the evaluation unless you’re approved.

Now you’re ready for your brief video chat with one of NuggMD’s highly professional, personable, and knowledgeable MMJ doctors. After just 5 to 10 minutes you’ll be on your way to finally getting some medicinal cannabis relief!

Prices are $199 for first-time patients and $99 for renewals. This is currently the lowest price we’ve seen in New York for a legal certification.

NuggMD medical marijuana certificates are legally recognized by the official New York State Department of Health (DOH) Medical Marijuana Certification Program for one year.

How do you qualify for medical marijuana in NY?

NuggMD Now Lets 4 NuggMD Now Lets New Yorkers Get A Medical Card Online

Despite what you may think, not everyone is eligible for an MMJ certification. In New York state you must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a valid New York state driver’s license, ID card, or U.S. passport
  • Must be able to prove residence in the state of New York
  • Must have a legitimate, qualifying medical condition

The State of New York recognizes a wide variety of medical conditions including:

  • Seizures
  • Cancer
  • AIDS
  • Epilepsy
  • Chronic Pain*
  • Lou Gehrig’s Disease
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Huntington’s Disease
  • Parkinson’s Disease

*Chronic pain is now considered a valid condition treatable with medical marijuana. And come on, don’t we all have some kind of chronic pain? This has already opened the floodgates for most anyone to get a certification in New York.

What Happens After Approval?

Once approved, you’ll receive an email from NuggMD with your certification and instructions regarding how to complete the New York state-sponsored registration process.

Using these instructions, complete your registration with the state (you’ll need to pay $50 for the state’s application fee) then your medical marijuana card will be mailed to you in a few business days. With this legal certification now in hand, you’re ready to visit a designated dispensary!

Eventually, NuggMD hopes to expand their other innovative services to New York, like their marijuana delivery marketplace. Soon New Yorkers will benefit not only from their Telemedicine platform, but also NuggMD’s online delivery services.

FAQs

Can I use my medical marijuana card from California (or another state) to purchase medical marijuana while I am staying in New York?

Oreo Wants To Pay You $500K To Develop Its Next Flavor

OREO WILL NOW hero Oreo Wants To Pay You $500K To Develop Its Next Flavor
That’s right, Oreo will pay you half a million dollars to develop the next flavor of America’s favorite cookie. So, the real question is, have you got the “white stuff” to do that?

Want $500K For inventing a cookie flavor?

Have you got the “white stuff” to develop the next Oreo? Well, in this case, it doesn’t even need to be white, as Nabisco are letting you decide the next Oreo.

It doesn’t need to be anything like the sweet creme filling sandwiched between two chocolate cookies that you’ve come to love, which has made Oreos one of the country’s favorite cookies (until the Canna-Oreo is released, that is).

Yes, the company that makes Oreos has opened the floor to the biggest of cookie fans, with a contest called #MyOreoCreation, which could see you – yes, you – choose the next flavor of Oreo. Not just that, but you could also win a $500,000 prize, too.

Best of all, the rules are quite simple, too. All you need to do is propose an Oreo cookie idea, which can be done on either Oreo’s online contest hub (where you’ll need to register an email address), or on Twitter or Instagram.

For the social media posts, you have to use the hashtags #MyOreoCreation and #Contest as a response to a post by Oreo. And there is also an option to enter via text (to the number 59526).

The three finalists will get $25,000 each, along with seeing their flavor creation hit store shelves nationwide, in May 2018. The grand prize winner, who will get the half-million, will be determined by the highest number of fan votes. Then, Oreo will move the winning flavor into mass production, which is when the winner will be able to see their creation in stores and pantries.

But don’t despair if you don’t win, as Oreo have said they will surprise a small number of fans across the country by delivering real-life samples of the flavor they submitted – but wasn’t chosen – via a small Wonder Vault robot.

Colorado Is Leading The Green Market (And It’s Not Just With Weed)

colocash Colorado Is Leading The Green Market (And Its Not Just With Weed)

From the sales of cannabis to clean energy, Colorado is leading the United States that is set to continue, if the federal government doesn’t intervene. The current state Governor, John Hickenlooper, says the booming economy is the result of efforts to make the Centennial State more “pro-business,” adding that Colorado has “one of the lowest business income tax levels at just a little over 4.6 percent.”

Colorado is doing it right

In an interview with CNBC’s On The Money, Governor Hickenlooper stated that, more than anything, state officials wanted Colorado to think of itself as a place not just for outdoor recreation, but a place to go and start a business.

The state is proving that it is green in more ways than one, with the governor saying one of the growing industries in Colorado is clean energy.

We have over 2,000 companies that do either renewable energy or clean tech.

While the national unemployment rate dropped to 4.3 percent in May, the lowest since 2001, Colorado’s jobless rate is the nation’s lowest at 2.3 percent.

Even though Colorado became the first state to legalize recreational marijuana, Hickenlooper was actually opposed to the measure, but it still passed by a 55 percent to 45 percent vote.

And with the industry going from strength to strength, it saw the state taking in $198.5 million in tax revenue from legal weed sales of $1.3 billion, which is up from the $699.2 million in sales in 2014 and $996.2 million in 2015 sales.

But the governor stressed the need to keep the size of the cannabis industry in perspective, saying that there is a $28 billion state budget overall, and “$200 million is just a drop in the bucket there.”

The governor also said that it’s “too soon to know” if there’s a downside to the legalization.

We don’t see more people doing more marijuana in Colorado after legalization. It’s through a regulated process now. But we haven’t seen a big spike in teenage consumption, we haven’t seen a big spike in any consumption.
