Once the best of friends, it seems that Jay-Z and Kanye West are now anything but, with the two rumored to still be public enemies. Now, a documentary, which is set to screen in the United Kingdom on July 31, looks deeper into the much-rumored feud between the two giants of the music industry.
Public Enemies
The documentary, Public Enemies: Jay-Z vs. Kanye West, is said to use unseen footage and exclusive interviews, which helps the filmmakers reveal “the story behind Jay-Z and Kanye West’s spectacular rise, their creative partnership and their colossal falling out.”
Just released, the 41-second trailer for Public Enemies begins with Kanye calling out Jay-Z by, well, asking him to call him, which took place during West’s Saint Pablo tour.
Jay-Z, call me, bruh. You still ain’t calling me. Jay-Z, call me.
But that was only the beginning, with Jay-Z responding with references to West in his latest album, 4:44. From there, rumors, theories, and hyperbole were posted all over the Internet.
Some claimed that the feud got worse when West expressed his displeasure at Tidal, Jay-Z’s subscription-based music streaming service, and the associated $3 million dispute between West and the company. Of course, there is also the possibility the two fell out because of West’s wife, Kim Kardashian.
Will Public Enemies get to the bottom of the feud? With contributions from the likes of Just Blaze, Touré and others, they discuss the similarities and differences between Hov and ‘Ye and the growth of their relationship over the years.
