In his latest movie, Michael Fassbender plays a detective that’s hunting a serial killer known as “The Snowman,” in this adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s Nordic Noir classic of the same name.
The hunter becomes the hunted
The logline is simple: Detective Harry Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.
But that is only the beginning of the story, one that leads the Detective Hole, played by Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave and Alien: Covenant), to hunt down what he believes is a serial killer at work.
With the assistance of his latest recruit (portrayed by Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson), Hole attempts to connect cold cases to the latest murder, in the hopes that the two can outwit the killer before his next victim is found.
This thriller is based on the popular book by Jo Nesbø, one of the most prolific authors of the genre that is Nordic Noir, with many having been adapted for the screen, both big and small.
For this big screen adaptation, Tomas Alfredson (director of another Nordic Noir classic, Let the Right One, as well as the film adaptation of John le Carré’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) is in the directing chair.
His cast includes the like of Charlotte Gainsbourg, J. K. Simmons, and Val Kilmer, who join Fassbender and Ferguson in the film, which is set for release on October 20.
